Hi everyone,

I'm looking to compile a completed list of Acorn Archimedes Games and was hoping someone could help me here. I want to try and create a guide for each game that has appeared commerically on the Acorn Archimedes, although I already know that will not be possible.

Here is th list I have so far:

http://glacoras.110mb.com/archimedes.html

Thanks in advance for any replys

(Had to edit the website as the previous website has started to flag-up my Anti-Virus)

Yeah, that's useful. However, it seems to be missing information about games that were released as part of Aries, only mentioning Hamsters. I did search each page but could not find anything. May find something tomorrow, when I am more awake.

*gets in first this time*

After Tom Cooper/Eclipse/Imparo gave us the rights to release their games for free, I dug up some information about Aries from an old Acorn mag. According to the mag, the collection contained:

* Hamsters
* Blow Pipe by Leading Edge/Eclipse.
* Quiz Master. Not listed on Acorn Gaming.
* Square Route by ComputerEyes.

Of course Aries was published by GamesWare, so we didn't put any effort into finding any of the games.

That's not all it's missing: there is only one of the budget games from Soft Rock Software listed (Floopy). The rest are: Escape from Exeria, Guardians of the Labyrinth, Drop Rock and Switch! (That trailing exclamation is part of the name - so that the appdir was !Switch! - I believe someone else brought out another, later game, called Switch)

I found Gareth's "review" of Floopy interesting. His comments about the gameplay etc may or may not be valid because, at the end of the day, a review is based on the reviewer's opinion; mileages may vary and all that. What was interesting is how someone who had never purchased a copy or had one sent to him for review by me can comment on the quality of the coding of something written in C (the other four were originally in BASIC), and to which he therefore had no access to the source code.

If I didn't know better, I'd swear his review of that was actually based not on looking at the game itself, but looking at a review that appeared in Acorn User and seemed more to be a rant about budget software and/or games without storylines* than a review of the game itself.

Still, all water under the bridge now.

* Although, ironically, Floopy did have one - The AU reviewer clearly didn't read it.

Seems a pretty big job. Have you considered updating the Wikipedia list of Archimedes games?

Even back in 1993, there were as many as 3000 games available - probably many of these were simple and faded without trace, and the figure probably includes PD or shareware games - but I'd be interested in finding out more about these pioneering efforts.

Maybe an old Acorn product catalogue (wasn't there one on one of the Acorn User CDs?) or set of magazine back issues would provide more info.

Yeah, but I wasn't sure if you wanted to include stuff like that. Like the extra tracks for saloon cars or whatever that were sold separatly.

Yes, since the Price of Loyalty is just a new set of maps for the game.
It's also lots of new features, artifacts, and other stuff.

Not really. This is mainly for my own reference to attempt to track down and, if possible (legally), write a guide for the games.

I may start updating Wikipedia, but would prefer a more complete list before I started the update.

The fact that there must be over 3,000 games for this console, according to that link, is very interesting, as the first website I was linked to only had about 350 game, some of which were just part of a Compliation Disk. However, does that include games that were not commerically available (ie, Freeware)?

Just finished the updating of the list. Some games (such as Hamsters) are listed in their specified Compliation Disk (for example, Aries is the Compliation Disk that Hamsters belongs to)

I think I'd just list all the actual games separatly. I think most of them were originally available separatly. Certainly all the games in the TBA collection were available separatly before they were offered bundled together.

Also, it makes it easier to find something on the list, if everything's listed individually. Otherwise, Hamsters isn't under 'H' and it's hard to find if you don't know about Aries. (I have no recollection of Aries, but remember Hamsters vividly. smile)

Also, whilst not exactly games, they are related:
