You realise you've fixed a bug that's plagued Asylum-owners ever since it was released? :o
No, because the problem only seems to affect v2, which would have been made several months after the initial release :P

True, but according to a newsgroups thread I read, about 2 people bought it in the first few months and he'd spent £900 on advertising :P

Oh arse. I did notice the price getting reduced pretty quickly after its release. Maybe the Acorn Computing demo had something to do with it. I remember being less than impressed with that, but I loved the full game years later. Never bought it though. :(

OK - all updated :E See the updates page.

Still got quite a few things I need to add though (see the list); I shall do this over Christmas. Priority will go to getting the Asylum cheats page up (the Oddball one is already up) and expanding the Asylum Source page.

Incidentally, I tried the Asylum cheats the other day - two of the modules didn't work, and one of them just crashed the machine as soon as you tried one of the cheats :|

I should probably figure out the PHP that does that automatically.

I'll design a banner tonight, and stick it on tomorrow; for a trial period :o

Oh yes, while I remember, Asylum has some support for extra levels :o

I'm not sure whether it's in Asylum 1, but it's definitely (half in) v2. Try copying one of the level dirs, and rename the system variables to PsychoExtend$Dir and PsychoExtend$Path, and viola you have an extra choice on the level select menu :)

When I (quickly) tried it though, it used the music from Ego and saved the high scores file to the root dir of my HD. But that was with just PsychoExtend$Path - I hadn't noticed Extend$Dir listed in the source, so didn't bother setting it.

The fact that there's some support for extra levels means that it shouldn't be too hard to extend in the future without people replacing/disabling the original levels. I'll probably take a poke at the source over christmas and see if I can fix it to work properly, then have a think about how to support more than one extra level :)

Also I've started trying to convert Asylum to C. The major stumbling block so far is switching over from fixed memory addresses inside one big structure to lots of smaller structures - it's hard to tell whether variables need to be next to each other in memory or not, exactly how arrays are formed, etc. However the source seems pretty well structured, so chances are that it'll be obvious if things are meant to be next to each other. I'll have another shot at it soonish - at the moment the C version uses a few large structures to hold everything, when really global variables will suffice. I may keep a few array structures as blocks of memory for the first version, just because it's easier to convert it. Once I have a better understanding I should be able to split it up into proper structures.

Oooh, interesting :) I'll have a look at this tonight. If you did get a level editor going, then I can get designing some more levels properly. I've got quite a few ideas :o I might try them out using Paint, actually...

Blo:o:o:ody hell! :o

If you look inside Oddball, there's details on how to configure the keys in-game to set up different options. I might document this tonight.

Oh, and I got the Oddball cheat from looking at the source :P

It's very good; but I can't help feeling it's going to take rather a long time to do all three levels + 24 cells with your method :o

Would have thought you could knock up a BASIC program where you input the converted sprties, and a sprite level file, and it outputs a Drawfile, with half-sized graphics.

But I don't know how to write it :P

Hmm; looks like I'll have to alter the banner markup to be XHTML-compliant :P
