ArtWorks 2.2 at the Wakefield Show
MW Software Press Release 05-May-04
-------------------------------------------------
ArtWorks 2.2 to be released at the Wakefield Show
=================================================
This year's Wakefield Show (to be held on May 15th/16th) will see the
release of ArtWorks 2.2, another major new version of the platform's
most popular advanced vector graphics package. It will be accompanied by
the release of AWViewer 1.70, the corresponding version of the free
ArtWorks viewer utility that enables third-party applications to render
ArtWorks files with the new features provided by ArtWorks 2.2.
------------------------
ClipView in ArtWorks 2.2
------------------------
ArtWorks 2.2 introduces ClipView, the most powerful new feature since
the introduction of transparency in 2002: It adds dynamic clipping to
the impressive portfolio of graphical effects and tools available in
ArtWorks (three transparency types, multi-column text areas, native JPEG
support, dynamic hatching and user-defined pattern-fills, dynamic
blends, envelopes and perspectives, SVG export, Sprite/TIFF/GIF export
and many more).
By applying a ClipView you can clip any collection of objects (shapes,
text, sprites, JPEGs, etc., even other ClipViews!) to any shape. The
enclosed objects are displayed like being viewed through a window
defined by the shape (or, in other words, the shape is filled with the
objects).
ClipView objects are very powerful because they are dynamic: At any
time, the clipping path can be edited by dragging its handles just like
any other path. Since you can clip bitmaps as well as vector objects the
ClipView feature effectively introduces bitmap fills to ArtWorks as
well. A single keypress transforms a shape and a bitmap into a
bitmap-filled shape that still behaves like a path - it can be edited,
you can apply a line colour to it, etc.
You can find a feature list and a screenshot of dynamic clipping at:

ArtWorks 2.2 will be a chargeable upgrade from ArtWorks 2.1. Pricing
details will be announced when ArtWorks 2.2 is released.

ClipView in AWViewer/AWRender 1.70
----------------------------------
I am proud to announce that for the first time, a major new feature
added to ArtWorks is immediately supported by AWRender, too. AWRender,
the free ArtWorks renderer module distributed as part of AWViewer is
used by third-party applications to display ArtWorks files. AWRender
1.70 supports all object and fill types of ArtWorks 2.2 (except
transparency) and thus enables OvationPro, Impression, PhotoDesk and
other programs to render ArtWorks files exactly as they are displayed in
ArtWorks 2.2 (with transparency switched off).
Additionally, AWViewer 1.70 includes detailed instructions to enable
Impression Style or Publisher running on the Iyonix under Aemulor to
make use of AWRender 1.70 to display ArtWorks files.
-----------------------------------------------------
Forthcoming ArtWorks support in EasiWriter/TechWriter
=====================================================
Compared to other advanced vector graphics applications for RISC OS one
of the strengths and unique features of ArtWorks is the fact that its
files can be displayed and printed by so many other RISC OS applications
thanks to AWRender, the ArtWorks renderer module.
I am glad to welcome EasiWriter and TechWriter, the popular word
processors by Icon Technology as members of the growing club of
applications supporting ArtWorks files, joining prominent members like
OvationPro, Impression, PhotoDesk, Composition, OHP and many others.
Versions of EasiWriter/TechWriter Pro with ArtWorks support will be
demonstrated at the Wakefield Show.
