That's a pre-emptive woohoo, on the basis that the Iyonix should arrive today. smile

Unfortunately, I have to go out now, though, and I probably won't be back until somewhere between 5 and 6pm.

No doubt it'll arrive 10 minutes after I go out. indiff

Check behind the hedge for the delivery guy. He's waiting for you to leave so that he can post the "sorry, we missed you" card through your letterbox.

If he was hiding behind a hedge, it's been (not) delivered to the wrong address! shock

(Unless he was in next door's garden just to cause confusion)

Now, shall I be a pest and ring home every 10 minutes to see if it's arrived? Or shall I be patient, given that I don't really have the time to set it up anyway until the weekend. wink

(Though I suspect temptation will get the better of me and something important will get pushed to one side.)

Well, what I've actually done is transferred the mess that was on my desk onto my bed. smile

And as it turns out the Iyonix Areola Cube does fit under my desk, with just a couple of mm to spare below the lower of the annoying metal bars.

It's going to get a hell of a kicking if I leave it there, though, so I'll have to find somewhere else for it.

But all that aside... I'm using NetSurf 1.0 on my Iyonix.

I've got a proper RISC OS computer on my desk again!

Woohoo! big grin

(And I've discovered I can't type on a proper keyboard anymore! Boohoo!)

A laptop keyboard. They are vastly different to use than a full size keyboard, as typically used with desktop computers.

Anyway, it's time to switch to the laptop for the rest of the evening - it's all very well playing on the Iyonix, but all my stuff is on the laptop!

What a twit! unhappy

I only have a single network cable running to this desk, which is now plugged into the Iyonix.

So when I switched the laptop on, I connected wirelessly. And as the evening progressed, I thought why not transfer a small selection of things over to the Iyonix. Not much - Pluto, NewsHound, POPStar and Quicksand; Pluto contains some large files, and for Quicksand I copied the whole thing over, including the original photographs - so it was a lot of data to transfer.

It's taken absolutely ages - far longer than it took me to transfer pretty much the entire hard disc contents of my rpc onto the laptop, which is plainly not right.

And I've just realised why.

I've long since limited the wireless connection speed, didn't I - to make anything other than basic browsing a waste of time (to dissuade my bandwidth hogging user from using file sharing crud).

DOH!

Oh well. When I want to transfer more over, I'll remember to temporarily disable that limit.

Unless I forget, of course wink

Could you connect the laptop and the Risc PC together using the one network cable, and forget the router?

Why would I want to do that when I was transferring stuff from the laptop to the Iyonix? tongue

But the serious answer is not really.

The wire that's in place for this desk runs along to the corner, up the side of the window, into the loft and along to the other side of the room, where it comes down a behind a pipe and veers off towards the router, which is on top of a cupboard.

This makes it difficult to unplug the router end and plug it into the laptop.

Other cables... yeah, sure, that's a possibility. I have lots.

But I don't know where they are. Probably in the loft, somewhere.

Actually, there are two cables taking the route described above - but the plug on one of them is broken. I suppose next time I could mess around making it useable and try that... but is that really easier than logging into the router, going to the relevant page and unticking a box?
