No, I mean that it seems to link to a summary of an article, and some comments about the summary. But the summary doesn't actually answer the question of whether it's worth eBay'ing a PS3, and the link to the main article gives a 404 (Including a broken error document error!)

The article just appeared on digg earlier today so the page it links to will have been totally swamped and killed for a while. There are links in the comments the mirrors of the article though which is why I linked there instead.

The digg article doesn't take into account sales tax, which for me was another $60 over the $599 price of the console. That reduces the potential amount you can make on eBay. Also, a lot of people throw in games with the console too ($60 a pop, plus tax).

Hilarious, but after looking at the page, it's horribly obvious that it's not made by a couple of kids. The graphics and logos are actually pretty good, and they have full instructions for downloading linked files for both PC and Mac users.

Also, what kids design their own line of t-shirts when they still need to ask their parents for a PSP for Christmas?

You appear to be confusing me with some sad-bastard die-hard my-console-is-better-than-yours loser who will stick with his chosen console manufacturer like a fly sticks to shit (when it's been coated with superglue), and who wants to engage in some kind of holy war.

Unfortunately, I really don't give a flying fuck, TBH.

So it looks as though backwards compatibility might be out of the window for an unknown number of games (and more to the point, an unknown number of games I own) - so what; I'm not going to suddenly run around like a headless chicken screaming (through a mouth on a non-existant head, obviously) that "my games won't work on my godlike console maker's new machine, oh my god it's the end of the world, eeeek, what am I going to do, quick pray to Sony in the hope that they'll sort it out!"

No.

What I'm going to do is sit back and wait and see what happens.

It's not as though I'm going to rush out and be the first in the queue for one, anyway - if and when I do invest in a PS3, it'll be a couple of years after they come out, when major problems are known about and/or fixed, so I'll know exactly what I'm wasting my money on - and less money than the twats who are first in the queue, I might add.

(The only thing that really changes is that I won't buy anything for the PS3 until I know that my future console will definitely be one - which would really have been the way it was anyway, so even that isn't a real change - and there's an echo here anyway of not being first in the queue for a console; I don't buy games until the next big things are out, and therefore don't pay anywhere near as much for the games.)

And if things don't turn out the way I'd prefer (so I can have one box that plays all that I own), then I'll have to go with a two box solution; keep a PS2 until I'm finished with my current crop of games1 and buy a new console to play new games. If that's a PS3, fine, and if it's some other box, fine.

In summary: The world does not end for me because Sony are a bunch of incompetent arsewits.

(Though the length of this post might lead you to believe otherwise. In fact, I'm just in the right mood for a rant about nothing in particular, so I chose your comments to trigger one off )

1 Which at the current rate of playing them will be in around 25 years or so.

I've not really seen any specifics on this, but what it looks like Sony are doing is carrying out their original plan of using emulation to run PS1/2 titles. The US version of the PS3 contains an actual Emotion Engine for running legacy titles, and it works *really* well. The compatibility list is huge, and I've had no problems with my titles.

I think the most likely scenario for the UK console is that the most popular PS1/2 titles will run just fine, and since emulation can be improved via software updates, they will hopefully do exactly this.

What pisses me off is that UK customers are going to have to pay loads more for the console, and the only reason Sony is not bundling the Emotion Engine is to reduce costs.

And that means that he's a PS3/XBox weenie that doesn't have much in his vocabulary than that same two words and smiley that he seems to put everywhere

And it also means that he confirmed that he is a PS3/XBox weenie. I think.
