I was just browsing through a some reviews of Ground Control: Dark Conspiracy for the PC. Ok, it's only an expansion pack for a reasonably old game, but is it just me, or does Iron Dignity look a hell of a lot better? Frankly, given the budgets of most RISC OS games (even one with funding for a PC release), how the heck did Artex manage that?! Anyway, more power to their tanks, can't wait for it. |

Because Frank Foehl is an exceptionally talented and dedicated coder. Of that I've no doubt. However I always suspected most of a budget went on artists and such. Iron Dignity even seems to have video-based (live action) cut scenes. I suppose you'll tell me their artist just happens to be a god as well, in which case I agree |

eeekk they've redone the ID website again! When did this happen? Is it worth a news posting? I tried telneting into port 80 on their server to see if I could get some modification dates on the files, but my HTTP/1.1 is a little rusty... it seems to be returning the *current* date and time with every page

You mean there's actually some up to date info on the games' status now?!?! On the German part of the site, yes. Babelfish or e-lingo should sort that out though ( http://world.altavista.com or http://www.e-lingo.com/browse/browse.php3 although I can't see German->English on the AltaVista site ) |

Here's a quick translation of the German, which I've corrected as much as possible; the bits in square brackets - [] - are bits that I've left because I'm not 100% certain what they mean. If we can't get someone from Artex to give us a proper translation I'll work on it some more. The Game: 2038. Another global nuclear conflict threatens to seal the fate of the world. Iron Dignity transports you, as member of an elite unit, into the middle of this modern battlefield. The missions lead you around the globe; the deserts of Afghanistan, the mountains of Peru, the Siberian ice or the British coast, you fight in groups of up to 15 different vehicles. Steer the high-tech combat units individually or in groups through the hostile territory. [Takes You/they outside-stations apart, you free hostages and capture you Radar-stations.] View the actions of your units in individually adjustable camera windows. Jump into the cockpit of individual units at any time to take control of the battle directly. [Them/her/it targeted uniform control of the air - and Ground-units prevents the loss of valuable seconds with the changing the vehicles.] The future lies in your hands: should you fail or be discovered, the downfall of the world will surely follow. Release date: SPRING 2001 Features: 24 missions and 3 bonus-missions 27 different vehicles 22 different weapon systems Change into another unit through simple keystroke [Waves freely - and zoom-pure camera] Overview-mode to commanding groups Complex's commanding of the allied units through short Commands Additional camera-windows to overseeing own units Gripping story and atmosphere [Stufenloser day - night - course] Weather-change while the missions Pioneered efficient 3D-Engine with over 1.6 million polygons Deathmatch in the network-mode Cooperative network play with up to 8 team-members Two different, branched Storylines |
