Paul Vigay announces details of future ANT Suite support

Posted by Tim Fountain on 17:36, 1/12/2000 | , , ,

As we reported last month, Argonet have ditched the ANT Internet Suite and formally announced that they will no longer be supporting it. At the time of the announcement, Argonet's Paul Vigay revealed his plans to continue support in his spare time, and he has now posted some details of this scheme to the comp.sys.acorn.announce newsgroup.

There will be 3 different levels of support available:

  1. Free support
Available from the Internet section of Paul's website. We're not sure whether there are any plans to expand these pages.

  2. Annual Subscriber Scheme (Email)
Allows you personalised answers to your problems by email. Costs £45.00 a year or £25.00 to registered users of Paul's Shareware program AntUtils.

  3. Annual Subscriber Scheme (Phone or Email)
Same as the above except you can also get support via. phone between 6.30pm and 9.00pm, and by fax at any times. This costs £55.00 a year or £35.00 for registered AntTUtils users.
Unregistered AntUtils users get a free copy of the program along with manual. Although we applaud Paul for his efforts, he said in his post that he can't guarantee future development of the Suite. This means you'd be paying some quite steep prices for support for a package that's no longer being developed, when there are (arguably) better freeware alternatives.

Unregistered user hear, hear, last sentence.

nothing against paul vigay´s engagement, but if there is no new development done why stay with the suite? oregano for example is at 49 UKP + VAT - once. AFAIK.

then again, what about that pace employee running a *desktop* version of fresco v. 2.19?
every of us buggers who once upon a time *paid* for the fresco-upgrade is still with v. 2.13, dated 03.12.99.

asked about that the employee has no time later v. 2.25 and knows that there are later versions than his.

grrrr. long live the riscos information society.
