Spacetech Ltd. - the company that produces RISC OS's leading bitmap graphics editor, Photodesk - has announced that it is to close.
Announced on the Photodesk mailing list, Chris Hornby wrote:
As from close of trading on the 31st July 2000, Spacetech Limited
will be going into liquidation.
A further announcement will be made regarding the future of Spacetech
products.
However, it's not quite all doom and gloom, as the message went on to say:
It is expected
that another, as yet unnamed, company will continue the marketing of
Spacetech product. It is expected that there will be a release of a
newly packaged Photodesk called "Photodesk: The Olympic Edition."
Work also continues on newer photoreal printers.
Obviuosly it would be a great blow to RISC OS to lose such an important piece of software (not to mention other packages such as TopModel and digital camera drivers, so TIB waits for more information with bated breath.

This is a shame. I wonder if this means the end of the development of TopModel? Will we ever see the animation add-ons to perhaps one of the most powerful packages ever released for RISC OS? |

Yet another Acorn/RISC OS company gone, can't say I didn't see it.
I doubt it would affect TopModel as Giancarlo would just find someone else to sell it. |

Well it seems it's not the market why Spacetech have closed! Still terrible news I think for the people there but not apparently for the market. |

I think it probably is pretty bad news for the market - as driver development (keeps on!) slowing down, the range of hardware available to RO users will keep diminishing.
Half of us are stuck with half-botched drivers as it is... :(

I take it you're referring to photoreal drivers etc?
"PhotoReal printers and drivers will continue to be available and existing and future customers will be supported. "
Does that mean they'll develop new ones or just keep the existing ones available?
Couldn't someoen else take over development?
