Hi
I've successfully got my RRPC set up with my 24" Benq LCD to do all but game fullscreen. I understand getting round this is do-able (maybe) in Monitor Definition Files.
I successfully downloaded and installed an MDF from someones post in here somewhere for a Generic LCD (cant remember who, sorry ) which as I say runs great on my RPC in desktop at 1680x1050.
Which is all very nice, except I cant for the life of me see full screen games properly they stretch and I dont get to see the whole screen.

being an example in Chocks away....
Now I'm guessing it is to do with the moitor Definition File because on my PC, running VRPC the very same chocks away runs how I remember it - i.e. normally. Only about 6 million times faster than on my A3010 lol.
The monitor in the two instances (RPC and VRPC) is the same, so it must be something to do with the MDF. Before anyone asks I have tried running the MDF from VRPC.... it pushes my monitor "out of range".
Windowed games like Star Fighter 3000 are fine (but I would even like to run this fullscreen sometimes)
So before I jump off a bridge, could someone help me out please? this is driving me up the wall.

I've got a 24" BenQ (model is FP241W, I think). I think the MDF I've got works with most screen modes, although I had a lot of trouble trying to find a 320x256 mode that works. I'll upload a copy of the MDF when I get home.
Also it's my Iyonix that I'm using it with, not my RiscPC, so it's likely that modes which required more esoteric timing (e.g. 320x256, which even the NVIDIA card struggles with) won't work on a standard VIDC equipped RiscPC. Do you have a ViewFinder or V-pod? |

I have an FP241 W Z (Pretty similar to yours) I don't have a Viewfinder/VPod although that is next on the list once I get some money lol.
If you would be so kind as to let me try your MDF... if it doesn't work it doesn't work BUT its worth a try.
cheers

Gone are the days of slipping in the needed mode for a demo into your MDF for you CRT!
Lets put it this way I can't even get Pushy2 to display on my A9 at work (a Sony 20" 1600x1200 LCD) <-- OK perhaps that is a good thing as it stops me being distracted for hours...
LCDs are a nightmare
One thing I have used to get even basic MDFs to work for the Iyonixes is a windows program called Powerstrip (http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm) - this will generate the complicated front porch back porsche sidevalve etc. values you can then poke into MakeModes which after an eon of fiddling about *might* give you a working resolution... |

I've attached a copy of my MDF. But a quick test of some of the lower resolution modes suggests that I haven't taken the time to get them all working (Most of them would have been copied from the MDF I was using with my RiscPC's 17" monitor).
It looks like it's the 72Hz 320x256 definition that I got to work. I managed to get everything to fit on screen, but it is letterboxed (And the card in my Iyonix does funky things if I move the mouse to the edge of the screen!) I haven't tried that definition on my RiscPC, so there's a good chance it won't like it. Best to load it into MakeModes and see if it gives any warnings, since it knows all about the VIDC limitations.
Also if you're feeling adventurous, here's a screenshot of some mode timings I found that allowed my RiscPC to do 1920x1200. I didn't try it for long though, so I'm not sure if the fact that the line rate is shown in red means that something's seriously wrong!

Thanks for that! My monitor doesn't like your MDF at anything above 1280x1024.... but the generic one I have works at 1680x1050.. odd.
I think some research on MDF's is required on my part.
I shal try Powerstrip to see whats what and try making my own from there as Keith suggested.
I'll probably end up with a V Pod or Viewfinder though lol.
