Nintendo DSi fails to excite
And also it's not GBA compatible any more. Might be a good time for me to start looking for a bargain bucket Lite, considering the left shoulder button on my DS is completely knackered.

Apparently the DSi isn't meant to be a replacement for the DS Lite - it's just a way of seperating more chumps from their money while Nintendo's boffins work on squeezing 8 ARM Cortex CPU's into the next DS (or whatever it is they'll cook up)
If they're releasing this now then it must be at least another year before a true successor appears. |

Isn't it a way to tackle R4 piracy? The DSi will probably have stronger protection - or maybe Nintendo are thinking that if anyone is going to make money selling SD card readers for pirated DS games, it's going to be them. |

Isn't it a way to tackle R4 piracy? Probably, yeah. The DSWare game download site/system is possibly their first step in phasing out cartridges altogether, and replacing them with encrpyted game files which can only be decrypted by the DS the game was downloaded onto.
If we're (very) lucky they may even be satisfied that the system is secure enough to allow us to officially run homebrew software. |

Oi, - have you sorted out your Animal Crossing on your new DS yet? I forgot
Last time I tried I couldn't connect to our new router - never really got to the bottom of it.
The DS hasn't had much attention since I got the Wii, and I got a bit fed up with AC because of the weeding and not having enough pocket/floor space for all my stuff. I'm too much of a hoarder! |

GTA DS looks pretty good eh? Yes, and good it is. But, that was several months ago (Doh!)
Now, it's Zelda: Spirit Tracks.
Anyone tried it yet, or am I to be the first? |

Anyone tried it yet, or am I to be the first? Summary: Like Phantom Hourglass, but with a train, and a retarded spirit flute/pan pipes mechanic. Crappy DS mic + no feedback on where you're going wrong + unforgiving difficulty = BAD. |

unforgiving difficulty = BAD. I thought you liked unforgiving difficulty?
Want to pick this up, but need to finish Phantom Hourglass first. On the last dungeon, I think, but got bogged down. |

unforgiving difficulty = BAD. I thought you liked unforgiving difficulty? Not when it's a 30 second segment of a game that's otherwise fairly ordinary, difficulty-wise. |

So I bought a DSi today to replace my original style DS (on which the touchscreen is *way* off on half the screen and won't calibrate properly). It seems a lot brighter than the original DS, and the slightly bigger screens makes quite a difference I like the fact that the finish on it is matt rather than glossy. Doesn't attract fingerprints like my mum and brother's white and black DS Lites do. (If you're interested, I got the metalic blue one)
I also bought Spirit Tracks with it as a bundle doodah (since it made Spirit Tracks 10 quid cheaper by doing so). Played through the first temple. I like it. But then, I like Zelda games anyway
Why don't Nintendo ship DSes with wriststraps any more? My original style one came with a branded wriststrap with a thumbpad on the end (which makes playing Mario64DS a bit easier).
I've also been playing Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days since Christmas Day. It's fairly good. A bit confusing in places though (like how you're supposed to sort out what "panels" you need for what...)

Anyone tried it yet, or am I to be the first? Summary: Like Phantom Hourglass, but with a train, and a retarded spirit flute/pan pipes mechanic. Crappy DS mic + no feedback on where you're going wrong + unforgiving difficulty = BAD. I managed to get through this in the end. I recorded the Lokomo guy playing during the practice track, then just muted the volume and listened to the practice track synced up with when I was meant to be playing the notes myself. Surprisingly I managed to get it on my 2nd or 3rd attempt this way, which seems to suggest that the game judges you on your rhythm/timing more than anything else (e.g. whether the crappy mic means that it detects multiple blows instead of one).
Luckily the one I was stuck at (the sand sanctuary) was the last one (apart from a somewhat easier bit during the final boss battle)
Also, during the final boss battle, there's one potentially infuriating bit where you need to defend Zelda against attack. I have a feeling this bit is a lot easier if you go to the trouble of getting one or both of the swordsmans' scrolls beforehand (not that getting hold of the scrolls is guaranteed to take less effort than just constantly retrying the boss battle) |

3DS, then.
Here's a list of games. Contra is listed. Hurrah!
Also, Infinite Space is LOOONG. I hit the end of act 1 after about 26 hours of play time; presumably act 2 is of similar length (I lost interest and haven't played it for a few weeks!)

Got a DS Lite the other day for $50.
Touchscreen has pretty bad calibration issues, but when DealExtreme has a replacement part for $2.60, and the repair looks like it takes 30 minutes to 1 hour or so, you can't go wrong.
My game selection as of now... Transformers: Decepticons, Dragonball Z: Buu's Fury (GBA), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (GBA).
At least a solution to the game selection problem is on its way from Hong Kong...
And, drooling over the 3DS. I won't get one first day, I'll wait and see on it, but I think I want one - and 3D stuff rarely works for me, or if it does, I don't get the full impact. (Slider to turn that stuff off FTW. But, I watched Avatar, and the 3D effects worked, just not very noticeably.) |

Impressive indeed! For that 'almost Archimedes' experience, the compatibility list states that Virus works, although I presume there's no way of attaching a mouse to the DS. |
