Hi, you all.

I am trying to get RPCEmu working on an Apple MacBook, but I am having difficulty working out how to install the ROMs.

I have downloaded RISC OS 5.22, and found the file, but when I create a roms directory in the same directory as the RPCEmu applications and copy the riscos file in, (which the Mac thinks is a unix executable), then try to load RPCEmu, I'm getting the message:

Could not load ROM files from directory 'roms.'

Does anybody know how to do this properly ????

Sorry I don't know anything about the Mac version, but you might have more luck getting help via the mailing list:

http://www.riscos.info/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/rpcemu

Or this forum on the ROOL website:

https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/10

Although the Mac build is not one supported by the developers.

Apologies for the late reply - I've been on holiday and not logged on.

Just in case you've not yet got it sorted, I've just checked my iMac. The roms directory is in Documents/Shared RPCEmu data.

Dear Mark
Thanks for replying.

I'm trying to run the RPCEmu application, which I've put in my MacBook's Applications directory.

When I downloaded it, I also got something called RPCEmu.dSYM, which identifies itself as a Package, but when I try and run it it just loads something in Terminal and refuses to do anything, so I'm guessing it's not supposed to do that.

I have created a "shared RPCEmu" directory in Documents, and copied the rom image in, but RPCEmu is STILL saying

Could not load rom files from directory 'roms.'

Is that the right directory name, or is there more to it ?

The message would have been a bit more helpful if it had given me a path to it, so I would know where it is looking for the rom files.

The Mac readme talks about Mac OS specific settings for RPCEmu being stored in a Library directory, but my MacBook doesn't seem to have a Library directory.

Jon

It doesn't work even when you create a roms directory inside Shared RPCEmu.

The instructions for installing this on a Mac could do with being a little more complete.

To see the library directory (which is usually hidden):

Contents of my roms directory (in case it helps):

riscos517 and roms.txt. If I check file info on the riscos517 file it tells m that it is a unix executable.

An easier method is just to press the Option key on your keyboard while the Finder's "Go" menu is open.
